• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Looking at all the options on recovering my Starduster one project. One of the things overall, I want to do with this plane is to have it lose weight. Older build with all the old heavy engine accessories, full lighting, wheel pants and radios. I would like the plane to lose 100lbs. I dont believe I can remove the transponder legally as it had it when the Airworthiness Cert was issued so I have to keep the electrical which I can do with lighter components and radios and such and thinking of getting rid of the lights as it looks like a 747 with them all on. I digress.WIth covering and the painting schedule. If I wanted a lighter covering job would you want to keep the undercoats per the manual and just skimp on the color or would you deviate and say put on 2 instead of 3 coats of each product? Safe is the most important; good life is too, but pretty its not as important.
