In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Hey guys,

I have a Lyc R680 on my project. I have a new Jasco alternator, an overhauled starter and an overhauled mag for the project. All of it is 24v.

I heard second hand today about a guy running lightweight automotive alternator and starter on a jacobs. I'm going to try to find out more. In the meantime..does anyone know of anything that has already been adapted successfully to a radial?

I have very little electrical demand on the project. I've previously installed B&C products on 0-200s. Something similar would be a great weight savings. My alternator is about 13lbs and the starter is about 18lbs. Also the potential of going to a modern lightweight 12v battery would be a nice benefit also.
