I have an old Skybolt with 1000hrs on it. I removed the wings in order to get a good look inside, look at fittings, etc., and to properly rig it. I found one loose drag( or anti- drag wire, - idk which ) in the top wing. The wire in question runs from the inboard of the aileron bay on the aft spar going forward and inboard to the front spar. I have not cut an inspection hole in the leading edge to examine the wooden wire block as of yet. From looking at everything else with a small scope, and by physical examination of the leading edge, ribs, etc, I do not expect to find damage.
If that is the case, any ideas as to why that wire is loose. The orginal paint is on the nut, and yet it looks like it is loose enough that I could a washer between the spar and the existing washer.
Would anyone leave it alone assuming no damage found under the leading edge? Would you tighten it on the airplane after rigging, or before?
