Hi guys, I have a question on nailing my gussets. My Son and I will be assembling the ribs for the upper wings this week.
We are using nails, no particular reason except I like the old fashioned look.
My concern is splitting the spruce.
Here is my question, should the nails on both sides of the rib be staggered? The reason why I ask is the nails are 1/4" so if both sides of the rib are nailed the nails could really split them apart.
So what I was thinking here is we could put nails close to the edge on one gusset and when the rib is flipped over move them in closer so there's no interference.
Am I over thinking this or am I on the right track? I'm just cautious because I have a lot of time in building my nose pieces and the upper and lower cap strips are glued on (per plans). So if they spilt changing pieces isn't really easy.
Thanks!
Mike
