It might be slightly off topic here to talk about props but we are discussing weight so here goes.
First we all know wood props are lighter than metal but I've been told traditional wood props give up some performance to flex compared to metal clubs so the performance boost that would be gained from the weight savings is lost.
Any opinions on this?
Also as a second question would a composite reinforced wood core prop be stiffer enough to provide the best of both worlds? Stiffness and light weight? (great grammar, I know)
Finally I guess the best overall would be a composite CS prop. But are they worth the money for a non competition Sunday afternoon sportplane? And aren't they high maintenance?
I'm thinking a two blade Catto might be the perfect compromise. Any experienced wisdom, personal opinions or wild speculation is appreciated.
