• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

I plan on replacing my starter with a Sky-Tech. I do not have a split nose bowl. A knowledgeable forum member believes it can be changed without removing the prop, but it looks like the nose bowl may need to come off for access.
Anyone changed a starter without removing the prop on a non-split nose bowl?
When I did an oil change and had the lower cowling off it really looks tight to get at the left aft bolt on the Lycoming starter.
Can the nose bowl be possibly rotated enough to install the Sky Tech?
I'm going into the shop for a Garmin 225 install and will have them install the starter but trying to save the shop some aggravation. It would be nice to not to have to remove the prop so I want to point the shop in the right direction.
I've found a hangar at Reno-Stead to rent and sourced a hangar partner who is building a RV-12 to share the rent.
