New guy here. Canopy question below.

Intro:

I've built a dozen RV's and F1 Rockets in the last 12 years. Multi award winner including Gold & Silver Lindy's at Oshkosh and 2 time Sun 'n Fun Grand Champion. I like nice airplanes and have always wanted a (nice - no klunker) Pitts.

I'm looking at a couple S1-S versions of the Pitts (I still have an RV7 so I don't need or want 2 seats).

Breakdown as follows:

S1S #1:
-'95 model
-200 hrs ttaep IO360/Catto
-comm radio
-Spades
-pitch trim
-canopy
-inverted
-starter with battery no alternator
-great paint
-no smoke
-4 gal top wing tank
-damage history: left wingtip replaced due to ground loop
-$39k

S1S #2:
-'79 model
-119 hrs ttairframe, 6 hrs smoh on IO360 and Sensenich
-refinished in 2000 (new fabric and completey 'gone over')
-comm radio
-no spades
-open cockpit
-inverted
-starter with battery and alternator added in '05
-great paint
-no smoke
-no extra fuel
-no damage history
-cost to be determined right now....I'm guessing about $30 to $32k

Here's the punch.....pretty sure I want my Pitts to have a canopy. Are parts available for me to purchase in order to fabricate and install the slider on the '79 model. If this one had the slider canopy I'm quite sure it would be my pick of the 2 I'm looking at.

I'm interested in hearing from those of you that have flown the S1S with and without the canopy.

Also, what other 'differences' might there be between the '79 and the '95 model that I should be aware of?

Can I add the spades to the '79 model (parts/etc availability)? Do I really 'need' them?

Any 'showstoppers' on either?

Thanks in advance.
