• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Thought I'd just post my "bio" used when joining Penn Yan Flying Club...

Aviation Background:
My first experience with general aviation was a ride in a C180 on floats at age 7, where we took off from in front of our house on the river. Around the same time, my father was building a Mustang II in the garage, and I have fond memories of watching its progress, seeing it towed to the airport, and taking my first ride in it. As a kid, I enjoyed hanging around Whittfords Airport (B16), helping out at pancake breakfasts, and flying with my father’s friends to various airports in NY. I even got to ride in a Tiger Moth to Binghamton once; it was a thrill I’ll never forget! When I moved to Austin, my father was building 1 of 3 Steen Skybolts together with two other partners. My father’s plane was the only one to be completed and is still flying, although now owned by someone else.
I decided in Nov. 1990 to begin flying lessons at a small airport in Cedar Park, TX called Kittie Hill (77T). The CFI was someone much like me, in that he came from an aviation family, and was just starting to take students using an inherited 1946 Aeronca Champ, that he quite literally saved from sinking into the mud in Illinois. The ole Champ didn’t look like much, but it was safe and a joy to learn in. I’ll never forget my 5th hour lesson, when we did spin training, it really shook me up at first, but I quickly learned to appreciate its value. On Jan. 12th, with 13.8 hrs. under my belt, I soloed in the Champ! Since then I have been checked out in a Aeronca 7EC, C150, J3 Cub, PA28-140, 161, 181. Most of my time was in the 7EC, and I have ~5 hrs. of basic aerobatics time. My last logged PIC time was in May 2000. My total logged PIC time is 200.2hrs. After years of performance boating as a hobby, I’m really looking forward to getting back into flying; the bug has never left me.
