• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

I'm starting construction on my truss ribs using T-88. I've never used epoxy before, so this is kind of new to me. I've made an unairworthy rib before using standard glue. I know stapling is commonly used with brads or clamps being alternatives to hold the gussets while the epoxy sets.

I would rather use clamps because I think aesthetically it looks nicer and doesn't risk damaging the wood as removing a staple does. So my question is how much pressure is really needed? Would a small piece of 2 x 4 apply sufficient pressure for the T-88? I was going to experiment with this, but I figure someone has probably already tried something similar.

The box says "apply only enough clamping pressure to close the joint" and I figured this would be about right, but I don't have any experience to fall back on so any input would be welcome, thanks!
