• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

I hardly ever post, but I think this justifies one.
In December 1994 I received some raw materials as a Christmas present from my parents. As a freshman in high school, I started building my plane. I worked on and off on it throughout high school, and college. I had LOTS of help from my father. After college I got married, and as I am sure you can imagine, life got in the way. The project would go for months on end without being touched. Sometimes it was even years between construction. After my father retired, he finished his RV8. Once that was complete, it was time to start back on my project. With lots of hard work from him, we finally finished the project, and the test flight occurred on 01/01/2015, twenty years later!

The airplane is almost entirely built from the plans, with a couple modifications.

1). Spring aluminum gear
2). A two place canopy

180HP Lycoming
76EM8-0-56 Propeller

During the test flight, the airplane flew perfectly. Hands off straight and level. We could not have gotten the rigging any better. At 2400RPM it cruised 140 MPH. At 2700RPM it cruised 150 MPH. We were extremely pleased. I don't want to ramble on, I just wanted to share a little of my story. Anyway, here is a pic.
