I'm a private pilot with about 500 hours, mostly in Cessna products, and I currently own a 205. I've got a tailwheel endorsement, and 10 hours of time in a Cessna 140 and a Stinson, though I am not tailwheel current.
I'd like to eventually own and fly a two place biplane with some modest aerobatic capacity, and would like some advice on how to get there. I'm considering buying a second airplane, definitely tailwheel, to work towards that goal.
As such, the question is 'Should I buy a transition airplane like a Citabria to get more time, buy a sedate biplane like a Hatz, or should I buy a something like a Starduster or Skybolt and take one giant leap.' Financially they are about the same price. Tailwheel rentals and instruction are not common in my area. Nor are grass runways. I'm open to the idea of travelling for focused transition training. What would you recommend I do to make progress towards my goal?
