• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Hello all just thought I would drop a line about me and my plans. I just found the website and decided to ask for advice tips, anything really. I current have over 200hrs flying including some aerobatic training on a c152 aerobat (aint no skybolt that is for sure). I also have float and night rating. 10 hours of tail dragging experience on a citabria. I plan on taking ten hours of flying in a s2 to help with a high performance aerobatic bi-plane. Anyway on to my future plans. I plan on builiding a Skyboly and have been doing some research. I have build r/c plans for a time so i understand the basics however have not worked on any real aircraft as far as Fabric/Wood/Metal. I am however a avionics technician in the militaryand i am no stranger to aircraft. I dont have epereince with wedling but plan on learning, nor with wood and fabric. Any way I hope to start building small parts at the begging keep expense down for now. I would like to start with the horizontal stabilizer, elevators etc to practice welding. (Well work on scrap metal till i get confident than work on the real components) I hope to start building at a much more serious rate in about 3 years. I am leaning to put an io540 of some sort. Kinda leaning towards the aeio-540 but not sure if i really need to go to that. I reside in Saskatchewan Canada, and will be trying to find the homebuilt clubs around here to join up. Is it cheaper to start building the metal parts, or start assembling wing parts?

Any remarks would be great.
