As I get my daily Barnstormer’s fix looking for the Perfect Plane, I find most of the biplanes have fabric over 30 years old. I’ve been advised (and I accept) that it’s better to buy one with a worn-out engine than worn-out fabric.
Researching the cost of recovering a biplane on the forum, I find a number of posts from 10-ish years ago about the cost, with a oddly-consistent number of $30K, hired out, including paint. Talking about a small, two-hole biplane.
I’ve found precious little on the topic in past few years.
Is that cost estimate still accurate?
If you send it out, is the plane gone three months or eighteen?
How about the cost and hours for doing it yourself, assuming strong building skills, but maybe never actually reskinning a plane before?
