I just got my my new softie seatpacks (with aerobatic harness) and have been reviewing the owners manual.
In the general information regarding putting on the parachute, after the basic adjustments, are the following steps:
7. Stand erect and tighten the harness by pull
ing on the ends of the harness webbing. Stow
any excess webbing in the elastic keepers.
Yep... that make sense.
8. When you sit down the harness will feel
much looser due to the geometry of the "A"
harness. When seated in the aircraft snug up
the harness and restow the excess webbing.
Can someone explain the reasoning behind step 8?
I had always been taught to fit the parachute outside of the airplane while standing up.
I was also taught not to snug it up in the airplane while seated because when you go to get out of the airplane wearing the chute, that the harness might be too tight and restrict movement and your ability to stand up easily.
Thanks,
Glenn
