I'm currently working on the shopping list for the SB 317 gear mod and I'm wondering if some of you guys might know the wall thickness of the tubes used for the mod. As of now I'm considering a 3/4 /.112 or /.156 tube for the inner reinforcement. Turning the OD down by .7" would leave a .085" or .12" wall respectively. For the patch I'd use 7/8 /.049 or 1/.012 tubing and for the 1/2" verticals I'd take .035" or .049" wall. What do you think?
While at it, what exactly would be the advantages of using that Grove "heavy duty" gear? Will it really bend significantly less in the center section lessening torsional loads on the longerons? What are the drawbacks besides the weight penalty?
Thanks in advance for your opinions,
Tom
