• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

hay guys,i have a factory installed smoke system that hasnt worked very well since day one. the aircraft was on the airshow circut for years, and ive found a waxey build up in the tank and have tried to clean it out..
I have replaced the pump, cleand the selonoid valve, and then found a fitting in the outlet of the selonoid valve, with a welded restrictor about the size of a #30 drill hole, now heres my question, i have had someone tell me to open the restricter a little,,or even runthe hosesdirect to the exhaust from the pump for max smoke,,, but i worry about a fire in the stack or down the belly, is this a legitimate concern??? I dont know if they had restricted the oil flow to prelong the time the smoke would run,,lighter smoke trail but longer duration,,,,,or its suppose to be there for safety....I was just wondering if the other smoke systems out there are the sameas mine, or was itmodified somewhere.thanks in advance for any help, tom in indy.
