• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

After many many years of building I have finally gotten to the first engine start point. The instrument panel is 95% finished. Hung the Cato prop yesterday. Am itching to hear that 540 hum... But... I must confess my severe ignorance in regards to ignition systems.... the plethora of info available online seems only to confuse me further....so to the good folks of the Biplane Forum I ask:::

I have a IO-540 with a 70 amp alternator (external regulator). Slick Start. Bendix 200 mags. Retard Breaker..ACS ignition switch...Off/R/L/Both/Start
Alternator terminals are labeled: Batt./Grnd./"F"/"R"....
Voltage Regulator is labeled : "I" "A" "S" "F".

Maybe some one can walk me through the hook up... nice and slow...I don't want to fry anything at this late date....

And while we're at it... I hooked up the ignition switch per the instructions and something seems amiss there. A continuity check shows all of the terminals on the back of the switch are grounded...regardless of the switch position????(with no Power applied) Any advise will surely help.. Thanks
