• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

After considering a variety of designs, speaking to owners, and doing some flying, my father and I have come to the conclusion that we'll never find anything that flies like a Pitts unless we get a Pitts.

However, we're picky, and after speaking with Dave Baxter (can't thank you enough for your time Dave) we've decided that we need to create the Pitts that we have in our minds.

We plan to take an S-2A or S-2E and make a modern version of N22Q. I was shocked by the 887 lb empty weight of N22Q, especially considering my old S-1C was only 100 lbs lighter and had about 30 sq. ft. less wing area.

The plan is simple, O-360 with a three-blade Catto, Wolf gear, Wolf cowling, pressure recovery curve wheel pants, open cockpit configuration with removable cover for front pit, fabric carried to firewall like No.1 Pitts, no electrical system, and a very light paint finish.

If we saw an S-2A or S-2E that really tugged on the heart strings, we might consider it, but we really like the idea of taking the Curtis Pitts philosophy to the fullest.

Thoughts and opinions are welcome and appreciated, as well as any info on an S-2A/S-2E that might be available.
