• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

    The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Neil,
Thanks for the following photo and info on cooler installation;

The oil cooler is mounted to the firewall with two
short lengths of aluminum angle that have nut plates installed for the
screws that hold the aluminum angle and cooler together. The angles are
bolted to the firewall and there is a doubler plate on the firewall.
The front end of the cooler is bolted to a mounting flange that is
welded to the motor mount. The oil cooler is a Posi Tec 20005C. One of
the reasons for mounting at an angle is so the oil enters on the low
side and the air is pushed out as the cooler fills. This should
eliminate any air being trapped in the cooler preventing it from doing
its' job. I made a mold from which to make the plenum box for the
cooler.

Do you have a photo of the rear side of the firewall with the reinf. angles, are the angles connected to the tubing?
