My son just bought this 1971 Pitts S-2A, S/N 2004, on Wednesday this week. We picked it up at Herron, WV, 7G1. The runway is 20 feet wide x 2,000 ft long, has a 20-ft rise in the middle and a crook to the right from Runway 22. The local joke is "Runways 22/5". I flew the Pitts over to Columbiana, then we fueled up and Tyler got in, and we made our way to the Antique Aircraft Fly-in at Blakesburg, IA, IA27, where we spent two days. On the way we ran into a former Red Baron Pizza Team pilot at a fuel stop. The runway at Blakesburg is grass, slopes up landing to the south, and is a bit rough for a Pitts, but we did okay after a go-around on the first pass.
When we picked up the Pitts it had a total of 909.15 hours on the tach, original fabric and paint in great condition. The engine has new cylinders/pistons/rings, brand new prop, all new hoses and rubber, and cruises at a solid 150mph at 22"x2400rpm. New fabric/paint is on the docket in the future, but for now it is just a matter of Tyler learning how to fly a Pitts.
