I'm planning on using a ACS "Homebuilders" 4 in. tail wheel, as well as a round tail spring, on my Pitts S1. I will be welding a tube to the last cross member, and to the tail post, that the spring will slide into but I have a few questions as this is not to the plans:
The tail wheel can be purchased in different degrees (10, 20 & 45) which one would work best?
What diameter spring should be used?
What thickness should the welded tube be to support the spring?
Would a slit and pinch bolt be a good way to secure the spring or should two cross hole at 90 degrees from each other?
What angle, to the lower longerons, should the mount tube to be welded at to avoid having to bend the spring?
Lastly, how long of a spring?
I will also be using a Wolf style MLG if that would make any difference in deck angle.
