• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

I've read all of the existing threads I can find on the forum that compare the Pitts S1S with the one design.

I couldn't find much comparing the Pitts to the Laser 200. Has anyone here flown both and have any thoughts on pros and cons?
I've liked the look of the laser since the 1980's but I'm aware of some of the issues with the wing and ailerons.

Current reference point is 200 HP Skybolt with C/S prop. I am looking for a lighter feel and a little better power to weight ratio.

I tried hard to find a nice S1 a few years back but couldn't find one that didn't have a significant damage history, sketchy records, 30+ year old engine/fabric or just needed work in my price range.

A nice 180 hp S1S is pretty close to the one designs/lasers in price (~$40k+). If the price is more or less a wash which is the most fun to fly and lowest maintenance of the three?
