• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

After several weeks of having no time for the project I thought it would be great to shoot the first coat of butyrate dope yesterday evening. Humidity was indicated at 72% in a weather station 1 km away from my paint booth. Still the surrounding of the booth was quite wet, but I had to spray and jup...ended up having more work that before.

I used 25% blush retarder as always with Butyrate Dope but still ended up having blush in the first coat. Since I already had blush once in the first coat but got rid of it with the second coat I pushed on and ended with a fully milky surface massively blushed. Those were the first coats after spraying Nitrated. I'll go ahead and sand it off but am not sure how much sanding is required.

Is it enought to sand it till the milky appearance is gone or should I sand it down to the coats of nitrate dope? I fear cutting the weave of the Ceconite if done this way. Maybe some of the oldtimers can give an useful advice.

Thanks ahead!
