I recently received my ASII plans (SN 3070) and instead of working on my paint scheme I decided I want to design a Wittman style landing gear for it. I'm sure this has been done before but my searches only produced discussions instead of physical examples.
Here's my preliminary design. I still need to run calculations to ensure this contraption won't fall apart as I bounce it down the runway, but I'm looking for feedback.
I first modeled the fuselage and standard landing gear so I could locate where the wheels go.
Then the fun began! I created a dynafocal mount and positioned it as the plans specify. Looking at the plans and other examples I added support members. Even though it will end up as a single weldment, I wanted separate support members dedicated to the engine mount and landing gear. I have also added a 5th attachment point to the fuselage.
The end result looks good in my biased opinion but running some numbers will prove it out. I welcome an feedback, especially if someone has experience designing/building their own Wittman style gear.
