• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

I started training someone aerobatics in a Skybolt today and the elevator really seemed stiff. It is a D model (3 piece upper wing) with a IO-360 engine on it. It has dual servo tabs on the elevator (1 bay each) and the upper wing is moved forward to the 6 cylinder position. In doing pull ups to a loop or hammerhead the elevator control is way stiffer than my Starduster and not balanced well with the ailerons ( they have spades and are very light). I talked to the builder ( who is an aerospace engineer) and he says the entire control system is built to spec. Meaning the control pivots on the tunnel are correct and he says the reverser behind the seat is equal in length so is not is in backwards. He knows about this and thinks it can be solved by changing the elevator to have 2 bay servo tabs on each side. Any comments , suggestions or advice would be appreciated
