Hello,

I have a Skybolt with a Lyc 540 and since weather is getting cold I'm considering adding some form of engine or oil heater. Any suggestions?

I have heard good things about Reiff heaters, but the sump heater needs to be installed at temperatures above what I can expect to see until April or May in my unheated hangar. And I'm not sure if the cylinder heater is necessary.

Is a simple oil dipstick heater any good? I know they used to sell them for cars and they were quite poor.

I know also of some people who put a droplight under the engine and a blanket over the cowling. However, I am a bit concerned about a fire hazard.

Any suggestion would be most welcome!
