• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

I have a new set of Gerdes 5x5 wheels and brakes that I'm putting on my Smith Mini . I don't particularly care for the seal configuration as the seal and cone are one part and the lip of the seal actually seats in the rim bearing surface just outside of where the bearing presses in . I would like to have the bearing and seat separate with the seal actually seating on the adjustment bushings and tap in fit in the wheel . The current seal configuration creates a good bit of drag not to mention the ID of the bearing has a rather large radius that would require bushings with a radius to match . My bushings are all straight cut and I would rather go to a conventional set up . Anyone here that might have converted to standard bearings and seals , please toss your ideas at me . Thanx Dennis
