• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Hi All, weve been snow/ice bound here in Atlanta for the last few days. Got so much done on the Pitts, Im outta Argon! and no hope of getting more for about a week.

I thought someone might be interested in this. Here is a picture of the torque tube as it came with my project. Can you spot whats missing? Its kind of odd, since the fuselage was built very much to the plans with the exception of a more reclined seatback, which I like, and this torque tube, which I dont! I dont have any good info on the history of my fuselage, so I must rely on careful inspection of every part.
I was flipping through the IAC tech tips manuals, and in volume 3, found a sketch of this torque tube. It looks like someone showed up at Fon Du Lac in 1981, and was turned away duringsafety inspection for this very reason. The good folks at IAC found this serious enough to include a sketch and special mention in the newsletter.
Of course its possible there weremore than one that were built this way, but I cant imagine why. Seems a bad place to try and save a few ounces.
Anyone ever seen this before?
