I finished installing the new oil cooler on the BF9-2. This cooler is one I bought from the Kimballs, and is exactly, to the third decimal, three times the volume of the original one, and it has a built-in thermostat. The inlet and outlet fittings are AN822-12D, 90-degree elbows. The outlet fitting is perfect, but I can't get the inlet fitting to seal oil-tight on the 3/4" NPT (national pipe tapered) threads at the point where it threads into the oil cooler block. On the first run there was a considerable amount of oil that made it past the threads and dripped and ran along the base of the cooler. I had installed it using Fuel Lube. Being a 90-degree fitting, it is position sensitive, and being the large 3/4" threads, you can't just throw another full turn on it to get it tight. I removed it and used about five layers of Teflon tape, and that cut the leak down to about 5% of what it was, but any leak at all is unacceptable. I removed it again and installed it using PermaTex sealant. Five days later another test run shows it leaking somewhere in between the first and second test. Any ideas on how to get this to seal?
Thanks,
Danny
