• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

My SD1 has a Raven pitot static tube. (photo #1). It is a tube inside of a tube design with static ports in the outside tube just behind the larger front tip. the outer tube has to seal against the larger front tip. Both tubes screw separately into the mounting block. Fittings screw into the mounting block to attach the tubes that go to the ASI. Then you have to attach the tubes to these fittings. That's 7 places that have to be sealed to insure the proper operation of the ASI. One of the PO's has placed a static port on a cockpit panel...I assume to correct a problem with the pitot static tube.

Rather than fight getting all the connections sealed, I'm leaning toward installing a pitot static tube like the one in photo #2. only 2 connections to attach the tubes that go to the ASI.

Any observations/opinions/experience concerning the choices?

Thanks.
