• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

I was flying today, it was hot here in S. Texas I flew to a small airport about 15 miles from my home FBO. I made about 8 touch & goes and thought I would make a full stop to get some water and a little AC to cool off. I got back in the plane andwhen I tried to start the engine, the starterengaged, it turned over about two turns anddisengaged.

I tried the starter again and all I could hear is the starter motor spinning but it would not engage.
I let it cool down some but could not getthe starter to do anything other than spin withoutengaging.
I have never had any issues with the starter before, and I can't remember any of the cars that I owned having a starter that just quit and didn't give me some notice of them going bad before it stopped working.
Is there anything I can try to get it to worksoI can get my plane back tomy FBO?There are no mechanics where Iparked my plane today and I need to get it back to my home base. I have a IO-360 and don't know what type of starter it hads.
Thanks for any help or suggestions
Don
