• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Hello all,Just a bit of background; Im a broke college student up here in North Dakota and I am going to build me a beautiful Pitts S-1SS come hell or high water! I have just put in the order for steen's plans and they should be here any day now. Just in the past week I have met many people willing to help on-line or in person. I figure meeting some more here couldnt hurt! But on to the first question I have (of which Im sure there will be MANY to follow!!!) When it comes to the wing ribs (wood capstrip of course), does anybody know anything about weather or not it is possible to lightly seal them (possible with a deck sealer)?go or no-go? I am conserned about the longevity of wooden wings with reguards to changes in humidity. Like I said, Broke college student....without the luxury of a climate controlled hangar. For the ribs, my kitchen counter is what I have at the moment! (sorry roomates!)I have talked to an A and P mechanic whom I just met (also a student) and he saidit shouldnt be an issue as for weight. I would just like to get some more opinions to see if anybody else has any experiance! Thanks for any and all advice I can get!!!!This is going to be one very long build, and everything is so overwhelming....but im ready for the challenges!
